With HarmonyOS on board Huawei phones, EMUI, the Android skin previously used by the company's devices, is expected to be gradually phased out.

Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei's consumer business software division, said HarmonyOS will soon be open source and the company will conduct HarmonyOS-related courses at 15 schools, including Wuhan University.

Huawei will officially release HarmonyOS 2.0 to users worldwide on June 2, when Huawei phone users will be able to upgrade to the operating system, local media quoted a company executive as saying on Tuesday.

Huawei announced at the HarmonyOS Partner Summit on Tuesday that the HarmonyOS hardware ecosystem has been rebranded as HarmonyOS Connect.

Huawei has started pushing HarmonyOS 2.0 public beta to users, meaning that more models will be involved in this test.

Huawei will continue to build a full-scene experience and improve its hardware and software service capabilities, with 100 million devices expected to have HarmonyOS installed this year, said Xu Zhijun, vice chairman and chairman-in-office of Huawei, on April 12.

In February, Midea, another Chinese home appliance giant, said it would work more with Huawei this year to launch more HarmonyOS-powered appliances starting in April.

Chinese tech giant Huawei's operating system HarmonyOS could become commercially available as soon as April and no later than mid-year.

The main Huawei Developer Conference 2021 (Cloud) will be held in Shenzhen, China, with more than 70 sessions around the world.
