According to the latest data disclosed by Microsoft, 150 million users are using password-free login every month. By comparison, the numbers released at last year's Ignite 2019 Conference were still only around 100 million. In just six months, that number has grown by nearly 50 million.
The company said in a blog post that users can easily log into services, including Azure, GitHub, Office, and Xbox, with greater confidence thanks to Windows Hello, Microsoft Authenticator Authenticator, and FIDO2-based security key schemes.
One of Microsoft's current goals is to promote the development of password-less account login (MFA) schemes, as they help protect users from online attacks.
According to some statistics released by the company last year, attacks against MFAs are extremely rare, and there is a lack of valid data to share.
The software giant noted that it has managed to get 90 percent of its employees to switch to password-free logins and the associated hardware and software costs have been reduced by 87 percent. Even so, the company has not forced all inexperienced customers to adopt immediately.
Microsoft vice president Joy Chik said she hopes to ultimately enable all customers to increase productivity, reduce IT costs, and reap the benefits of enhanced security.
