Canonical announced on its official blog that Ubuntu 20.04 LTS has been certified for the Raspberry Pi.
On the same day that Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was publicly released, full support for Ubuntu Server 20.04 was added to all certified Raspberry Pis, allowing users to flash 20.04 to their Raspberry Pi.
Last November, Canonical had stated that it would support all Raspberry Pi devices and made public its support plans for the Raspberry Pi 4.
With the release of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, full support for the Raspberry Pi begins with certification.
What does certification mean? After certification, Pi will receive tested updates and security patches every three weeks.
Canonical explains, "When a user buys a certified board, like the Raspberry Pi, and installs Ubuntu, they get peace of mind knowing Canonical has performed thousands of tests to ensure Ubuntu just works."
In addition to released patches and security updates, full support also means that Canonical conducts continuous regression testing of each Pi throughout the lifecycle of the Ubuntu release, and ensures its quality standards.
In summary, Canonical says, "This is all to make sure that users running Ubuntu on a Raspberry Pi have a secure best possible experience."
