Huawei has decided to postpone the release of its 5nm Kirin chip, as there are only two things for them to do now, the first is to keep a low profile and the other is to push TSMC to deliver the orders quickly, Sohu Tech reported Friday citing industry chain sources.

Guo Ping, Huawei's Rotating Chairman, said that Huawei will continue to invest in its chip designing arm HiSilicon, while helping front-end partners improve and build their capabilities. "We believe that in a few years there will be a stronger HiSilicon," he said.

Among the world's top 10 IC design vendors, Broadcom, Qualcomm and NVIDIA ranked in the top three, MediaTek and AMD ranked fourth and fifth, and Huawei HiSilicon ranked outside the top 10, according to a report released by TrendForce's Topology Research Institute.

Huawei today unveiled two new 5G devices in China - the Changxiang 20 and Changxiang 20 Plus - following the launch of the Huawei Changxiang 20 Pro in June.

Rumors have been circulating that MediaTek has cancelled its plans to develop a high-end 5G platform based on the 5nm process, which would have been almost entirely tailored for Huawei.

Huawei started to include MediaTek processors in several of its phones after production of the HiSilicon chip was blocked. But now it looks like that path won't work either.

Visionox Technology, ZTE's supplier of under-screen camera technology, is expected to be the screen supplier for Huawei's next-generation foldable phone, 21jingji.com said, citing sources close to Huawei suppliers.

In response to rumors of stopping supplying OLED displays to Huawei, BOE noted in the minutes of its earnings conference that "We are cooperating smoothly with Huawei and have not heard anything about disruptions in supply. We will provide services accordingly according to Huawei's policy and strategy."
