Huawei has decided to postpone the release of its 5nm Kirin chip, as there are only two things for them to do now, the first is to keep a low profile and the other is to push TSMC to deliver the orders quickly, Sohu Tech reported Friday citing industry chain sources.
Huawei was expected to announce its new 5nm Kirin processor on September 3 at the IFA 2020 conference, where releasing a new Kirin processor was normal practice.
For example, at IFA 2019 , Huawei launched its flagship chip Kirin 990 series, including the "Kirin 990" and "Kirin 990 5G" chips.
But in this year's presentation, Huawei did not have the usual release of the new generation of Kirin chips or other new products.

For this time, Sohu Tech quoted industry chain sources as saying that Huawei had determined that they will not release a new 5nm Kirin processor at the IFA 2020 conference, and what they are currently doing is waiting for delivery of TSMC's order for the chip.
In order to maximize the demand for Huawei's 5nm order, TSMC is in 24-hour non-stop production, it is to be fully delivered by September 14, because after that they cannot take orders for Huawei chips, the report said.
The supply chain sources said that in response to the US ban, Huawei has previously increased orders with TSMC's 5nm capacity in advance. TSMC will ship all of the chips to Huawei before September 14, after which it will no longer be able to do business with Huawei.
Due to the US crackdown, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business, said in a previous speech that the Kirin 9000 in the the upcoming Mate40 series will be the last of Huawei's high-end chips.

Yu said at the time that the Huawei Mate40, with its next-generation Kirin 9000 chip, would have greater 5G capabilities, more powerful AI processing power, and a more powerful CPU and GPU.
But unfortunately, because of the second round of sanctions from the United States, Huawei's chips will not be produced after September 15.
The Sohu report cited supply chain sources as saying that, due to the external crackdown is becoming more serious, Huawei had prepared last year, booking TSMC 5nm production capacity in advance.
