In the second half of 2019, TikTok removed more than 16 million videos that violated its community guidelines in India, the country with the most deleted videos, says TikTok.
TikTok yesterday released its transparency report for July to December 2019, detailing the government's video removal requests and the removal of videos that violate TikTok's policies.
Globally, TikTok has removed more than 49 million videos, or 1 percent of all videos posted on the platform.
The company did not disclose the nature of these videos, but said that its AI system removed 98.2% of the videos before users reported them.
TikTok also added that 89.4 per cent of these deleted videos did not receive any views.
India also tops the list when it comes to government requests for user information and removal of content. Authorities in India asked TikTok for user data 302 times in the second half of 2019 and 30 times for content removal.
TikTok is now banned in India, where the short-form video app had over 200 million users before that.
