China's first hybrid offshore luxury catamaran "Dawanqu I" was put into operation in Shenzhen on September 1.
"Dawanqu I" was built by China Merchants Group and equipped with a hybrid propulsion system jointly developed China Merchants, China National Railways, and Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), China's largest automotive lithium-ion battery maker.
Construction of "Dawanqu I" started in December 2019, and delivery was achieved on August 14, 2020, as scheduled. On August 26, it successfully completed its maiden voyage.
"Dawanqu I" has a length of 71.95 meters, a width of 18.72 meters, a design draft of 2.57 meters, a passenger quota of 350, an operating speed of 14 knots, and a full load displacement of 1,350 tons.
The cruise ship will operate at an operating speed of 14 knots with a full displacement of 1,350 tonnes. The cruise ship will travel between Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau, with each trip lasting four hours, including a 40-minute all-electric journey.
"Dawanqu I is equipped with CATL power battery system, 144 high energy density battery packs, CTP (cell to pack) technology, the total capacity of 2520kWh, equivalent to 200 hybrid cars.
The battery compartment is located on both sides of the bow bilge, with air conditioning inside the compartment to control the temperature at 25±2°C. The battery compartment is IP67 waterproof.
Its battery pack is IP67 waterproof, effectively avoiding safety risks caused by water vapor, salt spray and dust. The battery pack shell is made of high-strength steel plate, which meets the relevant standards of classification societies.
