Recently, there have been reports that Chinese users using 5G need to replace their SIM cards, in response, the three major telecom operators have all responded that existing 4G users do not need to replace their SIM cards.
On May 13, China Telecom released the "5G SA Security Enhancement SIM Card White Paper", which stated that, "Existing 4G cards lack the new features and new card files and services defined in the 5G standard, user identity data is transmitted explicitly during communication, and location information is not accurate enough to meet the information and security requirements of 5G networks.
In this regard, according to Chinanews.cn, China Mobile customer service said that "if you use 5G, you do not need to change the card, as long as the phone supports 5G network, meet the 5G signal coverage can use 5G network."
China Unicom customer service also said: "If 4G upgrade to 5G does not need to change the card at all, just make sure the phone is a 5G phone, the 5G switch is on, the area covered by the 5G signal, meet these conditions will be fine."
China Telecom said in a media response on May 14 that China Telecom's existing 4G subscribers can use 5G services in areas already covered by 5G signals without having to change their cards, simply by replacing them with 5G phones.
China Telecom's 5G SA security enhancement SIM card is mainly aimed at industry application scenarios with higher security enhancement needs, such as smart manufacturing, car networking, telemedicine, smart city and other fields.
