In emergency situations, a new group of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines may be given to some people such as medical personnel in China at the end of the year, Dr. Gao Fu, the head of the China CDC, said today.
"To obtain group immunity, there are two methods, one is natural immunity, that is, natural infection, and the other is to obtain immunity by the vaccine," Gao said, according to the Beijing Daily.
Talking about the current research and development of new coronavirus vaccines in China, Gao said: "It's not that we want to make vaccines today, and we will then succeed tomorrow. Both drugs and vaccines have their research and development cycles. I believe everyone will work hard and use the shortest time to get the vaccine developed. "
He said that at present, Chinese adenoviral vector recombinant vaccines have entered phase II clinical trials, some inactivated vaccines have entered phase I clinical trials, some inactivated vaccines are going into phase I clinical trials, and some other recombinant protein vaccines are also Will soon enter the first phase of clinical.
Regarding the timetable for vaccine development, Gao said that if it follows the normal process, it may not come out until the end of this year or early next year.
However, if the epidemic situation is more severe, it may be used by some people, such as medical personnel, at the end of the year in case of emergency, he said.
In this regard, he particularly emphasized that this must be used in emergency situations, not for ordinary healthy people.
