In 2019, the global smartphone application processor (AP) market revenue fell 3% year-on-year to US $ 19.6 billion, according to Strategy Analytics.

Qualcomm maintained first place with a 36% revenue share, followed by Apple with 24%, and HiSilicon ranked third with 14%.

Shipment of smart phone application processors (AP) supporting artificial intelligence (AI) increased by 45%.

Smartphone application processors with AI engines on devices accounted for nearly 51% of total smartphone application processor shipments in 2019, up from about 31% in 2018.

Sravan Kundojjala, Deputy Director of Strategy Analytics, said: "In 2019, Qualcomm's flagship processors Snapdragon 855 and 855Plus are used in many popular smartphones including Samsung Galaxy S10, Note10 5G, Google Pixel 4, Xiaomi 9 and OnePlus 7T Pro.ย  The first phase of 5G smartphones played Qualcomm โ€™s strength, and it is estimated that the company won more than 50% of 5G smartphones in 2019. Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, we expect 5G to continue to perform well. Strategyย  Analytics believes that Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 865 and 765 / G processors will help Qualcomm further expand its 5G market share in 2020. "

Stuart Robinson, Executive Director of Mobile Device Technology Research Services at Strategy Analytics, added: "Vertical smartphone application processor suppliers Apple, HiSilicon and Samsung LSI continued to maintain growth momentum in 2019 and gained market share. Strategy Analytics estimates that in 2019ย  These companies together account for 50% of the smartphone application processor market revenue share. Those smartphone OEMs that design their own processors still pose a strategic threat to suppliers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek. "
