The vaccine against the new coronavirus could be ready by the end of September, according to a scientist leading one of the UK's most advanced teams.
Oxford University professor of vaccines Sarah Gilbert told the Times on Saturday that she is "80% confident" that this vaccine will work and is expected to be ready by the end of September.
Experts have warned the public that the vaccine usually takes several years to develop, and the fastest development time for a new coronavirus vaccine may take 12 to 18 months.
But Gilbert told the London newspaper that, as far as the Oxford team is concerned, "this is not just a hunch. As the weekly development, we have more data to study."
Gilbert told the Times that her team is one of dozens of teams working on vaccines around the world and is the UK's most advanced team.
As the British blockade measures are about to enter the fourth week, the vaccine may be the basis for relaxing the blockade measures and returning to normal life. Gilbert said human trials will begin in the next two weeks.
