How much does it cost to build a 5G base station?-CnTechPost

Speaking of the 5G, the main issue that should affect its progress is the 5G construction speed. By the end of 2019, a total of 130,000 5G base stations have been built. So how much does it cost to build a base station?

Let's make a simple calculation: According to China Mobile's budget in 2019, it will spend 24 billion yuan to build more than 50,000 5G base stations; China Unicom is expected to spend 8 billion yuan this year to build 40,000 5G base stations.

China Telecom is expected to spend 9 billion yuan this year and will build 40,000 5G base stations.

According to this rough calculation, the value of a base station of China Mobile should be about 500,000 yuan for a 5G base station. The value of a base station of China Unicom should be 200,000 for a base station. And China Telecom needs 225,000 yuan to build a base station.

China Mobile has published a rough estimate. If a 5G base station is built, the construction cost will be about 3 times that of 4G.

The coverage area of 5G base stations is much smaller than that of 4G base stations, so more 5G base stations may be needed.

In this way, the cost of 5G base stations is about 150,000.

Recently, China Mobile announced the results of the centralized procurement of 5G Phase II wireless network main equipment in 2020. A total of 232,143 5G base stations are required, with a total purchase of 37.088 billion yuan.

According to this calculation, the price of a 5G base station is about 160,000 yuan.

In this purchase, Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson and China Xinke (Datang) were shortlisted, and the purchase price was about 135,000 to 161,200 yuan.

Among them, Huawei won 133,040 5G base stations, with a winning percentage of 57.25%, which is far ahead. Its unit price of 5G base stations is also the highest among the four suppliers, reaching 161,200 yuan per seat.

At present, China Mobile has fully completed the construction of the first phase of the 5G project and has fully launched the testing and procurement of the 5G second phase engineering equipment. By the end of 2020, the number of 5G base stations will reach 300,000, that is to say, China Mobile will have Nearly 250,000 5G base stations will be built.

To this end, China Mobileโ€™s 2020 capital expenditure budget is 179.8 billion yuan, of which 5G-related investment plans are about 100 billion yuan.
