In an interview with Guangming Daily today, Tang Daosheng, president of Tencent's Cloud and Smart Industry Business Group, revealed that Tencent will invest 500 billion yuan in the next five years for the further layout of new infrastructure.
So what exactly will 500 billion yuan be spent on?
Cloud computing, artificial intelligence, blockchain, servers, large data centers, supercomputing centers, IoT operating systems, 5G networks, audio and video communications, network security, quantum computing, etc. will be Tencent's key investment areas.
Among them, in terms of data centers, Tencent will continue to build a number of large data centers with million-class server scale in China.
At the same time, Tencent will also focus on the construction of Yunqi Industrial Base, Industrial Internet Base, Innovation Center, Industrial Park, etc. in conjunction with the needs of industrial technological innovation.
Tencent will fully mobilize its top research experts and laboratories, and will actively cooperate with top universities at home and abroad to build a research platform, strengthen industrial research and talent training, invest in major scientific and technological research, and actively participate in the development of industry standards.
Tang Daosheng said that Tencent will also continue to uphold the concept of "technology for good", integrate technical capabilities and make good digital assistants in various industries, so that everyone and every enterprise can share the fruits of industrial upgrading and development.
500 billion won't be the end, much less the beginning, for us.
All along, Tencent has been continuously investing in new infrastructure layouts. At present, Tencent has achieved two 100s in cloud computing: the total number of network servers exceeded 1 million and the peak bandwidth exceeded 100T; in the field of AI, we have more than 6500 global patents.
In the future, with the further increase in investment in new infrastructure, Tencent will further open up the industry to the interoperability of user connections, the strength of research and development technology experienced in the Internet field, the strength of open source synergy to maximize the public value of new infrastructure, the strength of platform ecology to drive the ecological economy with operational capabilities, and the strength of full domain security covering the underlying layer and applications, thus contributing to the digital upgrading of the industry.
