China’s top display maker BOE is one of the suppliers of the two other upcoming iPhone models besides the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, chinastarmarket.cn said, citing supply chain sources.

In the flexible display market, BOE already ranks second in the world, with a market share of 20.3 percent, said Chang Cheng, vice president of BOE Group, adding that the flexible display market is predicted to reach $49.7 billion by 2024, and BOE hopes to account for 40 percent of it.

Chinese panel maker BOE has recently launched the Smart Dimming solution, which can control the rotation of dye molecules to change the transmittance and achieve continuous adjustment of the light and dark states under voltage drive.

In response to rumors of stopping supplying OLED displays to Huawei, BOE noted in the minutes of its earnings conference that "We are cooperating smoothly with Huawei and have not heard anything about disruptions in supply. We will provide services accordingly according to Huawei's policy and strategy." 

For the first time ever, Chinese display panel maker BOE will be supplying Huawei with on-cell panels for its upcoming Mate 40 flagship phones.

Previously it was reported that Apple plans to use BOE OLED panels in certain iPhone 12 models launching in 2020. However, due to manufacturing issues, latest report said BOE will not be the panel supplier of the first batch of Apple's new iPhones.

It has recently been reported that Chinese OLED supplier BOE's screens have failed inspections by several manufacturers and may not be available for use in the upcoming iPhone 12. However, Laoyaoba quoted a supply chain source as saying that the report was false.

Driven by Apple, smartphones have been increasingly adopting OLED screens. Chinese panel makers including BOE, Shenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd (CSOT) has the capability to produce OLED panels and has started supplying them to smartphone manufacturers.

In addition to Samsung displays and LG displays, Chinese panel maker BOE will also be an OLED panel supplier for Apple's 5G iPhone, Digitimes said, citing sources. 

Display panel shipments in the first quarter of 2020 31.4 million pieces, down 7.7% year-on-year; in terms of area the shipments were 5 million square meters, down 3.8% year-on-year, according to the latest report from market research agency Sigmaintell.
