BOE has passed Apple's screen validation and will start supplying OLED screen panels for the iPhone 12 to Apple in December, Tencent News said, citing supply chain sources.
In response, BOE said that it was not aware of the situation.
There have been rumors of BOE becoming Apple's new screen supplier, though in fact Apple's current-generation iPhone 12 still uses screens from Samsung and LG.
It is certainly not that BOE is not willing to supply Apple, but in several previous sample tests, BOE was unable to obtain Apple's validation because it could not meet Apple's screen requirements.
In late November, Korean media reported that BOE underwent a second quality review by Apple but failed to pass.
The report said that Apple's first review of BOE had begun in September this year, but ultimately failed.
In late December, research firm RUNTO reported that BOE had passed Apple's validation in December and would supply OLED screens for the iPhone 12 series.
It's unclear which iPhone BOE's screens will be used on, but given the positioning and price of the two iPhone 12 Pro models, it's possible they will continue to use the better Samsung OLED screens. The biggest possibility is that BOE and Samsung together supply screens to the iPhone 12 Mini.
