New material made by Chinese team can inactivate coronavirus-CnTechPost

The Dalian Institute of Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said recently that it has successfully developed a catalytic material that can absorb and inactivate the new coronavirus.

The results of virus inactivation experiments conducted by the Anhui Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that the material has the function of directly adsorbing and inactivating new coronavirus, with an inactivation efficiency of 96.5% to 99.9%.

In the experimental environment, the concentration of the new coronavirus is 5 ฮผg / ml, which is much higher than the pathogenic concentration in the actual scene.

This kind of solid catalytic material is non-toxic, insoluble in water and organic solvents, and can be made into particles or carried on various carriers. It is expected to be widely used in anti-epidemic products and daily air and water purification supplies to achieve virus adsorption and inactivation. .

As early as 2003, during the outbreak of SARS virus, Dalian Institute of Chemical Technology put forward the idea of inactivating SARS virus by using the principle of adsorption and catalysis, and formed a joint research team with the virus laboratory of Dalian Medical University.

Quickly synthesize more than 100 inorganic porous solid materials according to the catalyst design concept, select typical samples from them, and verify them by multiple par influenza virus inactivation experiments before sending them to the Academy of Military Medical Sciences for SARS virus inactivation experiments, confirming that the selected materials have direct adsorption And inactivation of SARS virus.

Tested by Dalian Medical University, this kind of material also has obvious inhibitory effect on human adenovirus type โ… , โ…ค and human herpes virus type โ… .

Relevant work has been published in Journal of Catalysis, Chromatography, and Chinese Virology. Although the study achieved the desired goals, it did not really work when the SARS epidemic ended quickly.

After the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the Dalian Chemical Institute immediately restarted its work 17 years ago, upgraded its technical means, and focused on the research of catalytic material batch preparation technology and material adsorption and inactivation virus performance and mechanism.

At present, single batch production of over 100 kg of catalytic materials has been completed, with production capacity of more than one ton.

The research team also conducts research on the application of catalytic materials based on air purification, personal protection, etc., and completes carrier and molding technology and process development of honeycomb, metal mesh, and non-woven fabrics. In order to realize the material in air filtration and purification masks, etc. Lay the foundation for the application of other products.
