With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the number of companies associated with it in China has increased dramatically.
There are now 439,000 AI-related companies in existence in China, according to data provider Qichacha.
The peak year for such company registrations is 2020, with 172,000 new companies, and 153,000 new companies in the first half of this year, up 150.8 percent year-on-year.
Company registrations grew slowly before 2020, and 2020 was an explosive period for company registrations, with 172,000 new companies registered throughout the year, up 292.8% year-over-year.
In terms of registered capital, the number of AI-related companies with registered capital of less than RMB 1 million ($154,772) accounts for 24 percent, while those with registered capital of RMB 1-5 million and RMB 5 million or more account for 39 percent and 37 percent, respectively.
In terms of province distribution, the existing AI-related companies in China are mainly located in provinces such as Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
Among them, Guangdong has the most AI-related companies, ranking first with 64,000 companies; Jiangsu ranks second with 50,000 companies; and Zhejiang ranks third with 43,000 companies.
