Last December, OPPO first showed off a prototype phone with an under-screen camera at its 2019 Future Technology Conference. A prototype was recently circulated on Chinese social media, and it is said to be an OPPO smartphone with under-screen camera technology.
ZTE first used the under-screen camera technology on the Axon 20 5G, a mid-range model designed to test the waters, and the feedback wasn't particularly impressive, especially the quality of the selfie camera. OPPO may improve on this on its own device.
The device features a full-screen design with no notch, and a camera embedded below the screen.
The images don't show the design on the back of the model, but an earlier patent application from OPPO suggests that the device will have a circular camera design mounted on the back.
Currently, the only OPPO model with this camera design is the Ace2, so an under-screen phone could be coming out as the OPPO Ace3.
Xiaomi is also already developing under-screen camera technology, and its own model is not expected to debut until next year, as is OPPO's.
