Huawei launches Mate40 series in China, prices start at about $750

Following last week's launch for overseas markets, Huawei today unveiled the Mate40 series in China, unveiling the Mate40 and Mate40 Pro, Mate40 Pro+, and the Mate40 RS Porsche Design.

The Huawei Mate40 series continues the Mate's symmetrical design, drawing inspiration from the universe to create the distinctive "star ring" design symbol.

The Huawei Mate40 phones are priced at RMB 4,999 ($750) for the 8GB+128GB version and RMB 5,499 for the 8GB+256GB version. They will be available on December 21.

Huawei Mate40 Pro phone 8GB+128GB version sells for RMB 6,499; 8GB+256GB for RMB 6,999; 8GB+512GB for RMB 7,999; they will go on sale on October 30.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro+ phone is priced at RMB 8,999 for the 12GB+256GB version and will go on sale on October 30.

Huawei launches Mate40 series with 5nm Kirin chips, prices start at โ‚ฌ899

The Huawei Mate40 RS Porsche Design is priced at RMB 11,999 for the 12GB+256GB version, RMB 12,999 for the 12GB+512GB version, and RMB 13,999 for the Classic 12GB+512GB version.

The Huawei Mate40 series has a sleek screen spread across the front, with physical and virtual buttons, and an anti-false-touch algorithm that makes it easy to operate when held in one hand.

The Huawei Mate40 features a 6.5-inch 68-degree curved screen with a resolution of 2376 x 1080, a refresh rate of 90Hz, and a touch sample rate of 240Hz. It has a P3 color gamut and supports 2D face recognition and off-screen fingerprint unlock.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro and Pro + feature a 6.76-inch 88-degree curved screen with 2772 x 1344 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sample rate, P3 color gamut, support for 3D face recognition and off-screen fingerprint unlock.

The Huawei Mate40 has a single front-facing camera, while the Pro and Pro + models have dual front-facing cameras.

Mate40 may not see wide distribution as Huawei faces Kirin chipset shortages

The Huawei Mate40 series is powered by the new 5nm 5G SoC Kirin 9000 series chips. The Mate40 Pro and Mate40 Pro+ are powered by the 5nm Kirin 9000 5G SoC flagship chip with over 15 billion transistors integrated.

Huawei Mate40 Pro/Mate40 Pro+ is powered by 24-core Mail-G78 GPU to run large games smoothly.

The Huawei Mate40 series comes with EMUI 11, 5G and 4G support, as well as 2.4GHz WiFi 6+ and 5GHz WiFi 6+.

Based on the powerful performance of the Kirin chip, Huawei Mate40 series EMUI 11 kinetic smoothness is greatly improved, reportedly able to run smoothly for 36 months without stuttering.

The Huawei Mate40 series has a 4400mAh battery that supports 66W Huawei wired fast charging and 50W Huawei wireless fast charging.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro+ comes with a multi-reflective periscope telephoto camera that offers 10x optical zoom, 20x hybrid zoom, and up to 100x digital zoom.

The Huawei Mate40 comes with a 50-megapixel main shooter, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle, and an 8-megapixel 3X telephoto lens.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro has a 50MP main shooter, 20MP super wide-angle cinema lens, and a 12MP 5X periscope lens.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro + comes with a 50-megapixel primary shooter, 20-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, ToF lens, 8-megapixel 10X periscope and 12-megapixel telephoto camera.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro+ comes with a 20-megapixel ultra-wide-angle free-form camera that drastically reduces deformation at the edges of the image.

The Huawei Mate40 RS Porsche Design comes with an 8-megapixel 10X periscope, a 50-megapixel super-sensitive lens, a ToF lens, a thermometer lens, a 12-megapixel 3X optical zoom lens, and a 20-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. Huawei says this infrared temperature sensor can detect temperatures from -20 to -100 degrees Celsius.

The Huawei Mate40 RS Porsche Design also takes privacy and security to a new level for high-end consumers.

Its TEE OS secure microkernel is certified by CC EAL5+, the world's highest security level for commercial OS kernels, and key EMUI features are certified by ePrivacyseal, the European authority on privacy, covering the strictest data protection law, GDPR.

Its 3D face and on-screen fingerprint dual biometrics, both support unlocking and payment, the entire information completed in an independent microkernel.

The Porsche Design Edition includes the HUAWEI Mate40 RS Porsche Design and the HUAWEI Mate40 RS Porsche Design Collector's Edition in two models, with the Collector's Edition model adding an additional infrared temperature measurement function.
