Chinese flexible display maker Royole is launching its second folding-screen phone, the FlexPai 2, online today, priced from RMB 9,988 ($1475).
The keynote speaker at the launch was Chairman and CEO Liu Zihong, who believes that the future of human-computer interaction will be dominated by flexible technology that will revolutionize the way people perceive the world through a variety of devices.
Royole's idea of the flexible display was born in 2006, and with the establishment of Royole Technology in 2012 and the launch of the first fully flexible screen factory in 2018, Royole is continuously exploring more possibilities of the flexible display in various industries, such as the folding screen mobile phone with a flexible screen this time.
According to Liu Zihong, current folding screen phones have display problems such as creases and breaks, but Royole's team has developed an intelligent mechanical simulation model to solve the problems encountered by various folding screens, and has launched the third generation of cicada wing full-flex screen.

Royole claims to be able to withstand millions of bending tests and has passed the 1.8 million screen bending times test by the China Metrology Science Institute.
Royole's second folding phone, the FlexPai 2, features a 7.8-inch, third-generation Cicada full-flex screen with an improved pivot.
Royole's unique Royole 3S fully-closed linear pivot uses a variety of top-grade aerospace-grade metals to seamlessly fold and blend the screen and hinge.
It can hover at any angle from 0-180° and is made from a variety of top-grade aircraft-grade metals.
Royole says the FlexPai 2 closes with a 0-degree gap when closed.
The FlexPai 2 is available in three modes: mobile, tent, and tablet. The mobile mode can be used under normal circumstances, the tent mode for entertainment, and the tablet mode for business needs.

The FlexPai 2 also has a touch-sensitive area for easy operation. You can double-tap the sensor area to wake up or turn off the screen or slide it up and down to adjust the volume.
The phone's waterOS has also evolved to version 2.0, which supports automatic detection of closed and unfolded states and orientation, and optimizes one-handed operation by using the side-curved screen in single-screen mode.
Application splitting is available for large-screen scenarios, including large-screen horizontal and large-screen vertical; dichroic and triple-screen support. Previously, the first generation FlexPai supported dual split screens, but now the FlexPai 2 is capable of triple split screens.
The FlexPai 2 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 mobile platform and is available in 8+256GB and 12+512GB combinations and weighs in at 339g.
In terms of price, the FlexPai 2 8GB+256GB is priced at CNY 9,988 and 12+512GB is priced at CNY 11,588.
