Xiaomi is working on a transparent OLED display that has a smaller size and a cheaper price than Xiaomi's previously released transparent TVs, according to a well-known Weibo blogger.
Weibo digital blogger @数码闲聊站 posted the information, saying that the transparent OLED display will be more practical than a transparent TV to ordinary users and will be very futuristic on the desktop.
Xiaomi, if it is indeed working on a transparent OLED display, is expected to use the same technology as Xiaomi's transparent TVs, but at a lower price.
On August 11, Xiaomi's founder Lei Jun held the company's 10th-anniversary speech and also unveiled a 55-inch TV with a transparent OLED screen that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate.
It's the world's first mass-producible transparent TV and is part of Xiaomi's Master series released in July this year, priced at 49,999 yuan ($7205).
It's just 5.7 mm thick and has screen support for 1.07 billion primary color screens, DCI-P393% wide color gamut, and MEMC motion compensation.
It also supports 1 ms clockwise response to gaming-grade display standards.
It has a built-in MTK 9650 chip with quad-core A73 processor architecture and a Mali-G52 graphics processor.
It has a combination of 3 GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
Lei Jun said that the Xiaomi transparent TV is the company's first foray on the way to exploring the ultimate form of future TVs.
Its screen is like a piece of transparent glass that can barely be felt before it's lit. It removes the traditional backplane, the screen is almost "disappearing", as if only in science fiction movies to see the future of the screen into reality, Lei Jun said.
