Chinese technology giant ZTE today announced the world's first phone with an under-screen camera, the AXON 20 5G, starting at RMB 2198 ($322).
The front-facing camera is the main factor that affects the front screen ratio of the phone, and to accommodate it, phone makers have made different attempts by using a notch, perforated screen, and lifting screen solutions.
The under-screen camera can hide the camera in the screen panel, which doesn't pose a visual obstacle and doesn't have the complex structural changes that a lifted screen does, and is seen as a better full-screen solution.
In order to achieve this goal, ZTE did a lot of experiments and solved the technical problems of the under-screen cameras by using new ultra-transparent micron-level materials, independently driven display chips, highly integrated minimalist circuit design, original natural pixel arrangement, and triple-front view algorithm.
Finally, ZTE has commercialized the under-screen camera technology in the AXON 20 5G mobile phone. It has a 32-megapixel front-facing lens, which not only has an under-screen camera, but also enables screen sound, under-screen light sensing, and under-screen fingerprint functions.
