The lawsuit between Apple and Qualcomm, which was once a fierce battle, was finally settled, and the two sides also signed a multi-year product supply contract.
In a recent interview, Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf was asked about his relationship with Apple, and he said that now the discussion is really about the product and how to bring it to market as soon as possible, which feels more natural than before.
Obviously, among the products discussed are bound to be this year's "iPhone 12" series.
As early as February this year, the U.S. ITC (International Trade Commission) released a document showing that Apple Qualcomm's agreement requires Apple to buy Qualcomm's 5G baseband for at least the next four years.
Of these, the X55 baseband will be used from 1 June 2020 to 31 May 2021, the X60 from 1 June 2021 to 31 May 2022, and the X65 or X70 from 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2024.
In other words, this year's iPhone 12 should be paired with the Snapdragon X55 baseband, the same as today's Snapdragon 865 5G Android phone.
In addition, Jon Prosser recently revealed that he learned that this year's 5.4-inch iPhone 12 and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Plus will not support the millimeter wave band (mmWave), which means that the theoretical peak Internet speed it can reach and the high (Pro version) will be somewhat different.
Of course, since the three major domestic operators have not deployed millimeter-wave bands, we need not worry about that.
