TSMC rumored to get license to continue supplying some products to Huawei-CnTechPost

Following AMD and Intel, TSMC has also received a license from the US Department of Commerce to continue supplying some of its mature process products to Huawei, the Chinese chip industry website laoyaoba.comย quoted a person with knowledge of the matter as saying.

The source revealed that TSMC's license mainly covers products manufactured using mature processes, while mobile phone SoCs and other advanced process products are still banned.

In May this year, TSMC had announced a $12 billion investment in the US Arizona plant, rumor has it that TSMC's plant in the United States will be built on the basis of being able to guarantee the continued supply of Huawei.

TSMC wants to continue supplying Huawei after grace period, report says

However, Keith Krach, the Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, has publicly stated that the US has not given any assurances to TSMC on this.

TSMC said it would not respond to unfounded market rumors.

Yesterday, TSMC announced third-quarter earnings revenue reached 84.488 billion yuan, a quarterly increase of 14.7%, an annual increase of 21.65%, breaking the record high single quarter set in the fourth quarter of last year.

Huawei's stockpiling of orders amid the strongest ban in the United States was one of the main drivers of TSMC's record third-quarter results.

After Sept. 15, TSMC, which lost Huawei, also faces the problem of filling vacant orders.

However, if TSMC can get a portion of Huawei supply license, this will somewhat reduce the pressure on TSMC to fill vacant orders and allow TSMC and Huawei's customer relationship to continue to maintain.

The aforementioned sources also pointed out that the US Commerce Department will not completely block Huawei, but if the mobile phone processor chips and base station chips and other issues cannot be resolved, the loss of the pillar of Huawei's business is still unable to restore vitality.
