Apple's iPhone 12 models won't feature a 120Hz ProMotion display, according to display analyst Ross Young who has previously said that iPhone will only use ProMotion screen powered by low-power LTPO technology in 2021.
In a tweet this morning, Young said that none of his sources could confirm rumors that the iPhone 12 Pro model will feature a 120Hz display, while his sources suggest that Apple will be using a 120Hz screen in the 2021 iPhone release.
Recently some leaks have suggested that Apple is working on a 120Hz screen. DigiTimes also said that Apple plans to release an iPhone with a 120Hz display.
With his display expertise, Young insists that Apple will add ProMotion technology to the iPhone in 2021.
He believes that Apple will also use low-power LTPO display technology at that time, which will provide the iPhone with a variable refresh rate to save battery life.
Adding a ProMotion display to the iPhone without this technology could result in a corresponding battery drain.
However, iPad Pro uses the ProMotion display without LTPO. The ProMotion technology on iPad Pro dynamically adjusts the display to the movement of content. The result is a smoother paddling experience and improved responsiveness. The frame rate varies depending on what's on the screen to save battery life.
With all the rumors about ProMotion display technology, it's uncertain whether new iPhones will have it until this fall.
There are rumors that Apple will launch the new iPhone in September, but the release of some or all models may be delayed until October or November.
