Among the top-notch Indian smartphone shipments in the first quarter, Chinese phone makers occupied four positions, with Samsung coming in just third.
According to CMR data, Xiaomi ranked No. 1 in smartphone shipments in India in the first quarter, achieving a 3% market share growth over the first quarter of 2019.
While reflected in the figures, Xiaomi Tech's share of shipments in the first quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020 was equally 30%, thanks to the overall growth of the Indian smartphone market.
VIVO came in second place with a 12% share of shipments for the first quarter of 2019, but its latest release for the first quarter of 2020 saw a 17% share of shipments and a 45% year-on-year increase.
In third place is Samsung, whose smartphone market share in India has been declining, with a direct decline in shipments to 16% from 28% in the first quarter of 2019, a 41% year-on-year decline, and the only phone vendor in the list to see a year-on-year decline.
In fourth and fifth place are Realme and OPPO respectively, and it's worth noting that both of these companies have seen large increases in share, and are the two companies with the largest increases on the list.
Realme's Q1 2019 shipments share was 6%, while Q1 2020 shipments share reached 14%, an increase of 149% year-on-year.
OPPO's Q1 2019 shipment share was 7%, while its Q1 2020 shipment share reached 11%, a year-on-year increase of 82%.
Earlier, according to Counterpoint Research, the Indian smartphone market shipped 158 million units in 2019, up 7% year-on-year, overtaking the US as the world's second largest smartphone market for the first time.
