Apple has released the new iPhone SE. With the discontinuation of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the entry products of the Apple smartphone lineup now include the new iPhone SE and iPhone XR.
If you want to upgrade the device in your hand recently and swing between the two products, you may wish to look at the next comparison (mainly focusing on the difference between the two devices).
Smaller vs. Bigger screen
The screen of the new iPhone SE is 4.7 inches, while the screen of the iPhone XR is 6.1 inches.
Both screen ppi are 326, support original color display, 625 nits maximum brightness, 1400: 1 contrast LCD screen, and support P3 wide color gamut.
A13 Bionic chip vs. A12 Bionic chip
The new iPhone SE is equipped with the A13 bionic chip, which is the same as the chip in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.
The iPhone XR is equipped with the previous-generation A12 bionic chip. Apple advertises that the speed of the A13 chip is 20% faster than the A12 and the efficiency is 30% higher.
Border vs. Notch
The new iPhone SE has the same design as the iPhone 8, with a thicker border above and below the screen under the design of the front camera and Touch ID. In contrast, the iPhone XR abandoned the Home button and adopted a full-screen design, with a "bangs" for the front camera and Face ID sensor on the top.
Touch ID vs. Face ID
iPhone SE has a Touch ID button for fingerprint authentication, while iPhone XR uses a more advanced Face ID system for facial authentication.
Face ID debuted on iPhone X in 2017. At that time, Apple said that the possibility of unlocking someone else's iPhone X was about 1 in 1,000,000, while Touch ID was in 1 in 50,000.
However, both forms of authentication are actually very secure, so it actually depends on personal preference.
Rear camera
Both the new iPhone SE and iPhone XR are equipped with a 12-megapixel wide-angle rear camera with f / 1.8 aperture, while the iPhone XR ’s sensor has 1.4µm pixels and larger Focus Pixels。
The iPhone SE has the same as the iPhone 8 Sensor. However, the new iPhone SE benefits from the improved image signal processor of the A13 chip, so the gap between the two cameras may be small.
Battery life
As a larger device, the battery life of the iPhone XR is longer than the new iPhone SE.
Apple said that the new iPhone SE can continuously play non-streaming video for up to 13 hours, while audio playback can be up to 40 hours, similar to the iPhone 8.
In comparison, Apple said that the iPhone XR battery can be used for up to 16 hours for non-streaming video playback and up to 65 hours for audio playback.
Wi-Fi
The new iPhone SE supports Wi-Fi 6, or 802.11ax, while the iPhone XR supports Wi-Fi 5 or 802.11ac.
Wi-Fi 6 provides faster speeds, greater network capacity, higher power efficiency, lower latency and improved connectivity in areas with multiple Wi-Fi devices.
LTE
The new iPhone SE supports Gigabit LTE. Compared to the iPhone XR, LTE may be slightly faster.
Thickness and Weight
The new iPhone SE has a thickness of 7.3mm and weighs 148 grams, while the iPhone XR has a thickness of 8.3mm and weighs 194 grams.
