As the new coronavirus epidemic affected smartphone demand, Apple sold less than 500,000 iPhones in the Chinese market in February of this year.
In February, the total shipments of the Chinese mobile phone market were 6.384 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 56.0%, according to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology today.
Among them, smartphone shipments were 6.341 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 54.7%, accounting for 99.3% of mobile phone shipments over the same period, of which Android phones accounted for 92.2% of smartphones.
Based on this calculation, Apple’s iPhone sales in China in February were 494,000, down 61% from 1.27 million in February 2019. In January this year, iPhone sales in the Chinese market were 2.3 million.
The data also shows that of the total shipment of 6.384 million units, 2G mobile phones accounted for 43,000, 4G mobile phones accounted for 3.96 million, and 5G mobile phones accounted for 2.38 million.
The domestic brand mobile phone shipments were 5.858 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 55.3%, accounting for 91.8% of mobile phone shipments during the same period.
Affected by the epidemic, Apple said last month that the first quarter of this year (as of the end of March) would not be able to meet the company's previously set revenue targets. Apple estimated in January that first-quarter revenue would reach $63 billion to $67 billion.
