The number of monthly active accounts for WeChat, Tencent's messaging app, reached 1.225 billion as of Dec. 31, 2020, up 5.2 percent year-over-year, according to the company's earnings report released today.

Every day, more than 120 million users post content in WeChat's friend circle, 360 million users read public articles, and 400 million users use mini-programs.

WeChat mini-programs and WeChat Pay help SMBs and brands strengthen their connections with users, with transactions generated through mini-programs more than doubling year-over-year in 2020, the company said.

Meanwhile, QQ, Tencent's much older messaging app, had 594.9 million monthly active accounts, down 8.1 percent year-over-year.

The number of registered accounts for Tencent's fee-based value-added services was 219.5 million as of Dec. 31, 2020, up 21.9 percent year-on-year.
