Employees of Chinese tech giant Tencent posted on social media networks that the company gave each employee 100 shares of stock as a year-end bonus, which worth around HK$74,000, or about USD $9,450.
According to Jiemian.com, employees who have joined the company for less than a year can also get this reward, and some employees who joined the company in December last year also received the reward.
Tencent responded to thepaper.cn, saying that the award was only given to employees who made special contributions and not to everyone. Tencent did not disclose how many people received this award.
In July 2017, Tencent issued a total of about 17.87 million new shares to reward 10,800 employees, accounting for 34 percent of its workforce at the time.
In late 2016, Tencent granted each employee 300 shares of Tencent stock as a commemoration of the company's 18th anniversary. The total value of the shares amounted to about HK$1.7 billion, with each person receiving a share of about RMB 53,000.
Tencent's earnings report for the third quarter of 2020 shows that it achieved revenue of RMB125.447 billion yuan in the quarter, up 29% year-on-year, and net profit of RMB 38.542 billion yuan, up 89% year-on-year, with both revenue and net profit exceeding market expectations.
Tencent's share price was HK$739 per share. 2021 Tencent's share price hit a new high with a market value of over HK$700 million.
