Richard Yu, the iconic figure of Huawei's cell phone business, took a new role as Huawei Cloud & AI BG (Huawei's Tier 1 division), the Chinese tech giant announced on Wednesday.
Yu is currently the CEO of Huawei's consumer business, Huawei's managing director. Since Huawei's consumer business suffered a supply chain crisis, he also became the director of the intelligent terminal and intelligent vehicle components IRB (Investment Review Board).
His added responsibility for Cloud & AI BG was announced on Huawei's website.
Previously, the Cloud & AI products and services belonged to BU (Huawei secondary department) within Huawei, but after a new round of Huawei's internal organizational structure in 2020, the Cloud & AI BG became Huawei's fourth-largest BG, following Carrier BG, Enterprise BG, and Consumer BG.
At that time, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei issued a document appointing Hou Jinlong as the president of Cloud & AI BG.
Huawei Cloud & AI BG includes Cloud BU, computing product lines (including servers), and storage and machine vision product lines.
