A total of 14,375 applications for IC layout design were filed in China in 2020, a year-on-year growth of 72.8%, according to data released by the National Intellectual Property Administration on January 22.
In 2020, the number of enterprises submitting applications for IC layout design reached more than 5,600, more than twice the number of the previous year.
IC layout design patent is an intellectual property right for protecting the exclusive right of IC layout design that mainly involves chip design. And its application volume has maintained a high growth rate in recent years.
According to the China Semiconductor Industry Association, China's IC industry maintained double-digit growth in the first three quarters of 2020, with industry sales reaching 590.58 billion yuan, 16.9% higher than last year.
Among them, design industry sales accounted for more than 40% of the total, up 24.1% year-on-year, the highest growth rate.
