China's cell phone shipments fall 12.6% year-on-year to 26.6 million units in Dec

China's cell phone market shipped 265.995 million units in December 2020, down 12.6 percent year-on-year, according to the data released on Monday by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), a government think tank.

In December, 18.20 million 5G phones were shipped in the Chinese market, accounting for 68.4 percent of cell phone shipments in the same period.

The number of new 5G phones listed in that month was 19, accounting for 42.2 percent of the number of new cell phone models listed in the same period.

From January to December, the cumulative number of 5G cell phone shipments in the Chinese market was 163 million, with 218 new models listed, accounting for 52.9% and 47.2% respectively.

In December, 45 new models were launched in China, up 28.6% year-on-year. A total of 462 new models were launched from January to December, down 19.4% year-on-year.

5G phones account for 68% of China's November mobile phone shipments

In December, local brands shipped 205.053 million cell phones, down 22.8% year-on-year, accounting for 77.3% of cell phone shipments in the same period.

In December, 38 new local brand models were launched, up 26.7% year-on-year, accounting for 84.4% of the number of new cell phone models launched in the same period.

From January to December, local brand cell phone shipments totaled 270 million units, down 23.5% year-on-year, accounting for 87.5% of cell phone shipments in the same period; 413 new models were listed in the same period, down 18.7% year-on-year.

From January to December, the total number of smartphones shipped was 296 million, down 20.4% year-on-year, accounting for 96.0% of cell phone shipments in the same period.
