A joint lab co-founded by BYD Electronic and Xiaomi was officially inaugurated on Friday at BYD Electronic's Huizhou campus, according to the companies.
The two parties intend to build a technology development platform through this lab to explore high-end process technologies to meet the appearance and functional needs of end consumers.
BYD Electronic CEO Wang Nianqiang said the lab, which covers an area of more than 1,000 square meters, will conduct research on the molding mechanism and surface treatment technology of materials such as glass, plastic, ceramics and metals to meet Xiaomi's development needs for new technologies.
In addition, the lab is building a complete testing system in material microstructure analysis, physical property testing, macro dimensional measurement, chemical composition analysis and product reliability testing to improve yield rates.
Since 2014, BYD Electronic has been involved in the manufacturing of more than thirty Xiaomi cell phone parts and complete units.
