Huawei's smart car business reportedly to be integrated with consumer business-CnTechPost

Huawei's consumer business group is being integrated with the smart car solutions business unit, with the overall head being Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business, 36kr said, citing sources close to Huawei's senior management.

"The two divisions have been merged at the investment level, and there are no changes in personnel or business yet," sources told 36kr.

In Huawei's organizational structure, there are three major BGs and two major BUs. The BG business includes operator BG, enterprise BG and consumer BG, and the BU business includes Cloud&AI BU (cloud business) and smart car solutions BU.

Changan to build new smart car brand with Huawei and CATL

On May 27, 2019, Ren Zhengfei, founder of Huawei, issued Huawei organizational change document, approving the establishment of Smart Car Solutions BU, which is under the management of ICT Management Committee.

The document mentions that Huawei does not build cars and focuses on ICT technology to become a supplier of incremental ICT components for automobiles to help companies build cars.

The said report said that each business unit of Huawei corresponds to a management committee or investment decision-making committee, whose powers include approving the resources and manpower needed for business inputs.

Huawei launches smart car solutions brand 'HI'

Huawei's Consumer Business BG has its own independent management committee, headed by Yu. The Car BU, on the other hand, belongs to the ICT Management Committee since it was officially established in May 2019, and the top person in charge of the committee is Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun.

"The merging of the Car BU and Consumer BG at the investment level is to put the Car BU under the Consumer BG Management Committee, and Yu is the overall head." A Huawei source told 36kr.

This means that the head of Huawei's car business will be handed over from Xu Zhijun to Yu, the report said.

Huawei says it will invest $500 million in cars this year, not considering profits in short term
