NIO to launch 100kWh battery pack and BaaS plans on Friday-CnTechPost

Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO (NYSE: NIO) will hold a media conference on November 6 in Beijing to officially launch the 100kWh battery pack, giving users the option to choose from a range of battery sizes for different needs.

NIO currently offers options including 70kWh and 84kWh battery packs. With the release of the 100kWh battery pack, the range of its main selling model, the ES6, is expected to increase from 430km to over 600km and the new ES8 will also have its range extended from 415km to 580km.

NIO said that this is part of its smart energy replenishment system, which is about solving the user's energy replenishment challenges with a diverse range of solutions.

NIO will also unveil plans related to its battery rental service BaaS (battery as a service) and the company said today that recently five battery swap industry standards that NIO participated in the development of were officially approved for publication and will be implemented from February 1, 2021.

It is worth noting that NIO is also working on a 150kWh battery pack that could offer a range of over 900km.

Range anxiety is the most important factor preventing many people from buying an all-electric vehicle, but that anxiety could be largely alleviated if NIO were to launch the 150kWh battery pack.

On October 30, at NIO's top user club, EP Club, NIO founder William Li Bin said that NIO is currently working on a 150kWh battery pack that will give the EVs a range of more than 900km.

This means that even compared to fuel-efficient Japanese hybrids, NIO will be able to get more mileage from one battery cell than these hybrids can get from one tank of gas.

If the 150kWh battery pack is put into use, it would effectively more than double an ES6's range of 430km.
