SAIC-GM-Wuling's Hongguang MINI EV, China's best-selling electric car, sold 23,762 units in October, up 18 percent from September, the company announced today.

The model topped 1,200 units sold in a single day in October, the figures show.

SAIC-GM-Wuling sales crossed 179,000 units in October, up 19 percent from the same month last year. Among them, sales of SAIC-GM-Wuling new energy products reached 29,711 units, up 22 percent from September.

Data on October 14 showed that the Tesla Model 3, which has been the top-selling new energy vehicle in China since 2020, lost its top spot and was replaced by the Hongguang MINI EV, which sold more than 14,495 units in September, surpassing the Model 3's 11,329 units.

It's a micro electric car that was available only from July 2020. In terms of specifications, the Hongguang MINI EV is very modest compared to the Model 3. Not only does it lack the cutting-edge technology that the new energy vehicle industry is currently pushing, but it doesn't have all the features that ordinary cars have had for years.

For example, it doesn't have a driving recorder, back-up camera, front fog lights, etc., and some models don't even have air conditioning.

On August 12, SAIC-GM-Wuling announced that the Hongguang MINI EV has become the world's fastest small new energy vehicle to go from zero to 10,000 sales. Within 20 days of its launch, it had sold more than 15,000 units and had total orders of more than 50,000 units.

China's best-selling electric car isn't the Model 3, it's this model you'd never have thought of
