Huawei exec says HarmonyOS 2.0 developer beta for mobile coming in Dec as planned-CnTechPost

According to Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei's consumer business software division, HarmonyOS 2.0 is currently making good progress and development is ready to go, with the release expected to take place in December as scheduled.

At the Huawei Developer Conference HDC2020 in September, Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS 2.0, a distributed operating system for all scenarios, and announced a smartphone beta release for developers by the end of the year.

According to CSDN, Wang said Huawei determined internally that it was going to do HarmonyOS in May 2016, at which point it laid out the future of the market and where the technology might be headed.

For an operating system, a computer is a CPU, memory, display, speakers, disks, etc. HarmonyOS sees isolated IoT devices as modules, such as a light as a display module, a TV as a display module plus a speaker module, etc. In the eyes of the consumer, the computer is seen as the link between two devices.

What consumers see as a connection between two devices, HarmonyOS sees as a connection of modules, an original idea that has since become one of HarmonyOS' core innovations to help solve big problems in IoT.

Wang said, "The biggest innovation HarmonyOS brings to the industry is that not only do device manufacturers not have to go through the complex system customization / tailoring development, but the application ecosystem can be shared very simply."

What value will HarmonyOS bring to the average consumer? Wang gave a simple example, saying that many people like to sing at home, and as long as the phone and big screen in the house use HarmonyOS, the phone can be transformed into a professional microphone, and the phone can use the app to order songs, cut songs, and tune music while the TV is doing MTV player.

For application developers, HarmonyOS provides a distributed application framework, 13000+ APIs, IDEs and Ark compilers to help developers develop once and deploy on multiple endpoints.

Developers only need to focus on business logic, not on cross-end scheduling and communication details, reducing code and complexity and significantly improving the efficiency of full-scenario experience development.

Wang said, "In Huawei's view, HarmonyOS is an operating system developed for the Internet of Everything, and the mobile terminal industry has the greatest opportunity to develop China."
