Tesla has reportedly given up on conducting public relations, but that doesn't seem to apply to the Chinese market.
This week, an announcement that Tesla was hiring PR staff in China circulated on Chinese social media, and Tesla later confirmed the authenticity of the job posting.
According to the job details, Tesla plans to hire "regional external affairs managers" in 10 cities including Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Qingdao, which is clearly PR.
Tesla has previously stated that it doesn't want to focus on advertising and marketing in terms of product strategy, but rather confidently relies on "product power".
The Tesla-focused news site Electrek reported recently that Tesla has effectively given up on conducting public relations. The company, Electrek’s Fred Lambert wrote, has disbanded its PR department altogether, leaving no one to respond to press queries.
However, it seems that this idea does not apply to some markets, including Europe and China, as Tesla is still leaving the "external communication and contact" to a professional team.
