There is an update to this story:
Tesla and smart wearables maker Huami will join forces to create a smartwatch, according to cls.cn.
No details on the new product are available yet, but it is speculated that the watch will have the potential to turn on and off Tesla's electric cars.
Huami founder, chairman and CEO Huang Wang also recently hinted on Weibo that a product jointly made with a car company will be announced on September 15.
Previously, car blogger Sj Vlogs posted a poster on Facebook hinting that Tesla and Huami's brand Amazfit will collaborate on September 15.
In fact, the news that Tesla is going to make smart wearables isn't a recent development.
Back last month, a new document released by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) revealed that Tesla is involved in developing a smartwatch.
In Huami's smart hardware lineup there are smart bands, watches, and a range of smart eco-products such as sports headphones, treadmills, body fat scales, and weight scales.
Huami had entered into a partnership with Chinese EV maker Xpeng Motors in June 2019 to connect its Amazfit brand of smart wearables on the Xpeng P7.
Based on the NFC functionality built into its bracelets and watches, it will enable P7 door unlocking, locking and vehicle starting.
Earlier this month, Huami announced that the Amazfit GTR, Amazfit GTS smartwatches are available to unlock the Xpeng P7.
Huami Amazfit GTR, Amazfit GTS users need to update to the latest firmware to get this feature.
