Following media reports of TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer's resignation, its parent company ByteDance has confirmed the information and said that it respects his decision and thanks him for his work with TikTok.
According to the Financial Times, Mayer has resigned, and TikTok's current general manager Vanessa Pappas will serve as the interim head of the company.
Mayer joined ByteDance on June 1 this year as ByteDance COO and global CEO of TikTok, responsible for TikTok, Helo, music, games and other businesses of ButeDance, as well as some of ByteDance's global functions (excluding China).
Previously, Mayer spent more than 20 years at Disney, where he served as the company's senior executive vice president and chief strategy officer.
As Chairman of Consumer and International Business, Mayer successfully launched Disney's streaming service, Disney+.
As senior executive vice president and chief strategy officer at Disney, Mayer was responsible for corporate strategy, business development and drove Disney's acquisitions of Pixar Animation, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox.
Mayer also ran streaming services such as Hulu, ESPN + and Hotstar, as well as international operations, global content and ad sales.
