After two big version Android OS upgrades, the Huawei Mate8 is now running EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0. However, even five years after its release, this old Huawei flagship still has system updates now.
Huawei has recently pushed out a new software update for the Mate8, bringing smart detection of abnormal battery charging, as well as the latest security patch that was released in July 2020.
The update is currently available in China and could be pushed out to users worldwide afterwards.
The Huawei Mate8 was launched in 2015 with the Kirin 950 processor and was the first flagship of the Huawei Mate series.
The phone deactivates the word "Ascend" from the name included in Huawei's Ascend Mate 7 and other devices in the series. It is also the first smartphone to come with EMUI 4.0 based on Android 6.0.
The previous Huawei Mate8's successors, the Huawei Mate 9 and P9, have also been upgraded with a new smart detect abnormal battery charging feature, and the new features added to these older devices improve the user experience and help reduce issues like battery aging.
