The photos of a Li ONE, made by Chinese EV maker Li Auto, with a broken front axle triggered widespread concern in China recently. Today Li Auto released a statement in response, saying it was an accident and not a quality issue, adding that the Li ONE's test quality exceeds that of Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

The Li ONE accident happened on August 9, when an owner in Xiamen was involved in a car accident.

Photos show that the left front wheel has come off, and the shock absorber spring has also been deformed and detached, "flying" out of the car. There was liquid coming out from underneath the vehicle.

Previously, a Li ONE was also involved in an accident in Shanghai, where an axle was suspected to have broken.

Li Auto was quick to assist the car's owner after the Xiamen accident, but didn't publicly respond last week.

Li Auto has just released a statement on Weibo in response to the accident.

The company said that the accident was caused by a serious collision, and that the scene investigation, owner's description and traffic police have all proved that the accident was caused by careless driving.

Li Auto said that the suspension system of the Li ONE is very safe and reliable.
