On August 10, 2020, the first acceptance letter from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences arrived, along with a vinyl disc of the university's special gift for new students - sounds from the depths of the universe.
The sounds are 15 pulsar signals captured by the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), known as the "China Tianyan".
'China Tianyan' captures rare rapid radio storm that flashes three times in a row
The signals were converted and processed by the university's students to be presented in the form of audio.
Among them, 13 pulsar signals were released to the world for the first time through these acceptance letters.
In a letter to the new students, the university's president, Li Shushen, wrote that he hoped them would heed the call from science and national mission and follow the call to march into the world's scientific and technological powerhouse.
