Apple today opened its new retail store in Beijing Sanlitun that's adjacent to the old one, but twice the size.
Health and safety procedures will be in place at the opening, including requiring everyone to wear a mask before entering and while inside the store, and body temperature check.
The new store features many of Apple's latest retail store designs, including the Forum Interactive Lounge, the Viewing Room, and the new View Gallery and Boardroom Chat Room.
Apple Sanlitun also features the first-ever integrated solar array at an Apple retail store in China.
This solar array will power the store below, making it like all of Apple's facilities around the world to completely rely on renewable energy.
Apple says Apple Sanlitun opened 12 years ago with 52 employees and has welcomed more than 22 million visitors, equivalent to the number of residents in Beijing.
Apple CEO Tim Cook commented on the opening of the store:
As our first store in China twelve years ago, Apple Sanlitun has always held a special place in our hearts.
Our teams have been working hard to reimagine every aspect to provide an even more special experience for the community to explore, create and learn.
Like all of our stores, Apple Sanlitun will run on 100% renewable energy — a portion provided from its own rooftop solar array.
We’re thrilled to be welcoming customers to the beautiful new Apple Sanlitun!
