Xiaomi says it will 'build a car', then denies it

Xiaomi Mall said on Weibo today at noon, "Building a car? We're serious!" , suggesting that Xiaomi might be making cars.

But then the general manager of Xiaomi PR Xu Jieyun denied the plan,  saying this is a misunderstanding and Xiaomi has no plans to build a car.

Xiaomi Mall later said on Weibo that Xiaomi actually made a smart remote control toy car, 1:16 scale, replicating the image of the Jimny Off-Road Hummer and it will retail for 199 yuan.

But it's worth noting that Xiaomi already has an idea for a presence in the connected car space.

The company has applied to register the trademark "Mi Telematics" in June 2020, as well as a related graphic trademark on the same day.

Both are internationally classified as Class 9 Scientific Instruments and Class 42 Design Research.
