OPPO reportedly poaches MediaTek exec to head its chip division

OPPO launches "Mariana Plan" to develop its own mobile phone chips, tentatively named OPPO M1.

The smartphone maker not only hired Jeffery Ju, MediaTek's former chief operating officer as a consultant, but also rumored that TL Lee, general manager of MediaTek's wireless business unit, has left to join OPPO to take charge of the mobile phone chip division.

TL Lee was willing to leave at the beginning of the year, MediaTek tried its best to retain him.

MediaTek developed the 5G chip "Dimensity" in which TL Lee is a key figure. TL Lee was the keynote speaker for the release of 5G chips, including the Dimensity 1000 and Dimensity 800.

However, to May this year MediaTek released a new 5G chip Dimensity 820 online, the keynote speaker is the wireless communications business unit associate director Lee Yan series.

Branded mobile phone manufacturers want to design their own chip to master the core strength, in recent years there have been news of poaching Taiwan talent.

Part of MediaTek and the mainland UNISOC technical talent, was poached by OPPO to Shanghai's mobile phone chip development team.
