At today's China Display Conference 2020, Chinese panel makers TCL and Visionox have explained their views on the next generation of display technology.
Visionox believes that future display products will be developed from DCI-P3 to BT2020 (DeepBlue), and at the same time, there will be better performance in HDR, low power consumption, high refresh rate, low blue light, and reflectivity.
In addition to the performance trend of flexible display products, Li Junfeng, president of the Visionox Innovation Institute, also said that curl and slide will be the mainstream form of the next generation of the flexible display.
However, he also said that it is more difficult to develop curly shape display products than folding and sliding shape, which has challenges for module materials and drive layer design.
As we can see from the morphology development chart shown by Visionox, the future of the industry will move towards the development of "fully flexible display", that is, the screen can be folded or stretched along any axis.
The stretch display has a richer application scenario, covering electronic skin, wearable electronic products and functional sensor integration field.
It is worth mentioning that the South Korean government plans to promote scalable display panel technology this year, with LG Display participating and setting the goal of producing a 20% scalable panel before 2024.
In response, Li Junfeng pointed out that according to a recent study by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, the maximum substrate stretching rate is 30 percent. This means that the stretchable display market has a lot of room for development.
In addition, Li Junfeng also said that the medium size is an inevitable trend of industrial development, and bi-fold and multi-fold mobile phones, flat panels, and laptops are all potential areas of use.
