TCL Technology Group today announced that its Shenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co. CSOT) will invest 30 billion yen (about 2 billion yuan) in Japanese OLED panel maker JOLED. The two companies will develop technology in the field of IJP-OLED (printed OLED).
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic on travel between the two countries, the contract was signed in an online form , with teams from both sides attending the meeting together via video in China and Japan.
According to JOLED, the deal will give CSOT a 10.76% stake in the company.
Li Dongsheng, founder and chairman of TCL, said at the signing ceremony that printed OLED display technology is an important direction of the next generation of display technology, and the long-term technical cooperation between CSOT and JOLED will accelerate the industrialization of printed OLED display technology and products.
Yan Xiaolin, CTO of TCL and Chief Scientist of CSOT, said that JOLED is the pioneer and leader of OLED technology for printed display, and he believes that the cooperation between the two sides can make the next generation display products reach the market faster.
JOLED is mainly engaged in the research, development, production and sales of OLED displays, and has mastered the world's leading OLED material printing film technology, oxide semiconductor technology and flexible/bendable and other panel-related technologies.
In December 2017, JOLED completed the shipment of its first printed OLED panel (21.6-inch, 4K) product The company has become the world's first manufacturer to supply printed OLED panels.
The world's first printed OLED panel mass production line, G5.5 Nohmi production line, has been built in 2019. The company started operation and trial production in November 2010, and its key process and product achievements in printing OLEDs are at the leading level in the industry.
