Apple allegedly could rename iOS to iPhone OS

Famed leaked Jon Prosser tweeted today suggesting that Apple could use the 'iPhone OS' to name iOS 14 to align with iPadOS.

XDA writer Max Weinbach also claims to have received emails showing that Apple  would rename iOS to iPhone OS.

"Dude I got a random email saying Apple  would rename iOS to iPhone OS and the  iPhone to Apple Phone and I didn't believe  It... .wow," he said. .wow," he said.

Apple allegedly could rename iOS to iPhone OS

Apple's late founder Steve Jobs said in 2007 that iPhone runs OSX. However, Apple officially used the iPhone OS name when it shipped from the factory. It was only when the iPad changed its name to iOS.

It's worth noting that Apple unveiled iPadOS at WWDC 2019, also with the new name of the operating system.

If this turns out to be true, Apple's future OS lineup will be :

macOS

iPhoneOS

iPadOS

watchOS

tvOS
